huffy

a poem

with every breath
the bike rolled
further and further
from the places
I used to know

the strings of my 
sling bag dug 
into my shoulders 
like angels
and demons 
arguing about whether 
it was right to leave 
the store
with a dollar
and a drink

only one earbud in
so that I can hear 
the sound of childhood blow 
past my ears 
while the bass
of teenage angst 
rattled against 
my frontal lobe

so far away from home
two wheels 
and an open road
