This month I will be releasing the first issue of The Guidelines Zine. I am very excited to share this project with everyone. Last week I shared the cover art for the first issue.
This week, I want to share a little bit more about the project as we get closer to its official release!
The project is titled Knuff Ced, which was inspired by an old trend from the 1830s of intentionally misspelling common phrases. These misspellings were then abbreviated and became sort of linguistic status symbols that distinguished folks who were in-the-know. The term “oll korrect” gave us the colloquial “ok.” And the term “knuff ced” —a misspelling of “enough said”— was abbreviated as “kc.”
Which is, of course, my name. My initials. Not the name I was given at birth, but the one that I came to be known as by everyone who really knows me—knows me from my stomping grounds, from the playground, from cookouts in the backyard. KC, or the even shorter, monosyllabic “kace,” is who I am when stripped of all the noise.
So that’s a little about me.
Anyway, I wanted to share a poem from the zine. Something to get your interests piqued.
This is Scare City:
If you want to subscribe to The Guidelines Zine, you can use this link. These will be mailed out by the middle of the month and should hopefully arrive shortly after that.
This zine project is all about getting my art off the screen and into your hands – physically, analog, old-school. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while and now it’s finally coming to life! I’m excited to share it with all of you.
I’m looking forward embracing the analog, putting our phones down, and enjoying ART, not consuming CONTENT.
Art is something worth more than a click, a like, and subscribe. I hope you’ll join me in this mission.
The first issue will be in your mailboxes this month. If you want to subscribe, use the black box below:
I look forward to showing up in your mailbox!
Cheers!
Thank you for reading! Please like, share, and subscribe if you enjoyed it. I’d love to have an even more in-depth conversation in the comments!
If you’d like to support the journey, you can buy this former barista a coffee. It would be much appreciated!
