Hey! This is The Guidelines. I’m korick, or k.c., either way. Here I write about my journey of recovery and creativity. Every week I write poems or essays about what I am learning, experiencing, and practicing as I gratefully work to live a full, healthy, and creative life.

HUB2U2
after Isaiah Rashad
maybe no birthday will ever really matter unless you manage to accept what happened to you when you never could make it make sense. if you do happen to find yourself aging above or beyond what you thought you needed, still keep what happened around. you may have been too numb to notice the thousand years before your first name, but having them with you here today, what’s your purpose? pay back.
food for thought
Your face was blizzard, are you numb enough again? How I sang it with that purple Power Ranger in my Benz It's a Jeep, but I'm gon' get it I'm still Roc 'em when I visit Don't you dig into it deeper than that prophet, this is sinners It's a long time comin' Somehow, I always keep it peaceful with my kumbuya hunnids Always looking for a good time, Sunny, that just my first name Don't holler 'bout your father incentive, it's just a birthday And a warning for repeatin' a cycle would be the worst way Them hoes always callin' my number like it's a jersey Them hoes always treatin' my Johnson like he a person No matter what could happen, what happened to havin' purpose? Translate for you scratchin' the surface Motherfucker, I need my payback

korick is…
korick is reading the poetry of
. Abrasive, harsh, sober, intuitive, insightful — whenever I read one of these poems I feel transported to another place, another point-of-view, one that is as familiar as it is strange, one that confronts, regrets, laments, and hopes.korick is watching Rolly vs. Pitbull. This will be a fun fight.
korick is listening to We Don’t Trust You by Future and Metro Boomin. Hip Hop is alive after Kendrick called out Drake. What a time to be alive.
korick is paying attention to my birthday.
What are you consuming or paying attention to? I’m always taking recommendations.
Three wishes for a new decade:
Peace - reprieve from the intoxicated turbulence of the last chapter of my life and a acceptance of the serenity of emotional sobriety.
Purpose - an end to the feeling of listlessness and a dedication to service to my loved ones, my community, and my higher power.
Prosperity - letting go of covetessness and having gratitude and love for the abundance I have in the present.
I’m happy you’re here.
I hope to see you back.
Have a great weekend.
